Elko Diagnostic Imaging now 100% Digital with the latest implmentation of digital mammography.February 10th, 2011First to offer Digital Mammography in Local Area(Elko, Nev.) – Elko Diagnostic Imaging is proud to announce the latest addition to their advanced technology offerings: Digital Mammography. Women who undergo routine mammograms at EDI now have the latest diagnostic technology available to them. EDI is the first healthcare provider in Elko County to feature the state-of-the-art system, Selenia™ digital mammography from Hologic®. The implementation of Digital Mammography also makes EDI the first 100% Digital Imaging provider in Elko County. Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is obtained and, more importantly, evaluated. The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and invert the image to black on white while reading the images. These features allow the radiologist to evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern. To complement this technology, EDI has also incorporated digital Computer-Aided Detection (CAD). Digital CAD highlights characteristics commonly associated with breast cancer. When activated, it flags abnormalities to help the radiologist detect early breast cancer. CAD is, in essence, a second set of eyes to support and enhance the radiologist's diagnosis. “Digital mammography is a more comfortable exam than conventional screening from a patient’s perspective. While compression is still utilized, women will notice shorter exam times, warmer equipment, and a reduction in call-backs to obtain additional images, thereby reducing additional radiation exposure,” said Ross Golding, president and medical director for EDI. “Women can also see their mammogram images on the screen during the exam,” he said. Founded by Dr. Joanie Haid in 1992, Elko Diagnostic Imaging has offered superior outpatient imaging services at the center located at 1784 Browning Way. The partnership formed with Reno Diagnostic Centers in 2005 in Reno, NV has provided EDI with the latest in now 100% digital technology, with still the greatest personalized care.
