Preparing For Your Visit

To streamline the registration process and minimize your personal expenses, it is important to take the following steps before your appointment:

Step 1

Find out if your policy or plan requires a preauthorization or referral. If so, contact your insurance company and find out what you need to do to obtain one. In some cases, our associates are able to obtain this authorization on your behalf.

Reminder: Medicare and Medicaid require written orders for all exams.

Step 2

Come to your appointment at EDI with your insurance card and a photo ID. If you are seeing us as a result of a workers' compensation, automobile, or personal injury case, we ask that you bring the claim number, date of injury and name and address of your attorney as well.

If you have questions about insurance:
EDI is an approved provider for most major insurance carriers and health plans. We will submit your claim, and any secondary claims, to any insurance company under the benefit coverage you specify, including workers' compensation, auto insurance, and personal injury. Ultimately, the patient is responsible for payment of the account, including any balance not covered by insurance. We will send you a balance statement for any amount you owe after insurance. Please contact your insurance company if they have not paid for your procedure after 30 days.

If you have questions or concerns about billing, please call EDI's Billing Office at (775) 284-2111 (you may leave messages after business hours) or email us at contactus@elkoimage.com. Our typical business hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm. If you have any questions concerning pre-authorizations from your insurance carrier, please call (775) 284-2128.

Preparation Instructions

Each type of imaging exam and diagnostic or therapeutic procedure has its own specific guidelines. Special instructions for your exam will be given at the time of scheduling. For certain procedures, an EDI representative will contact you 24 - 48 hours prior to your exam with preparation instructions. There are a few general guidelines that apply to all exams offered at EDI.

General Guidelines

Notify your physician and EDI staff if there is any chance that you may be pregnant or are currently breastfeeding. Discuss any special needs, such as dietary and/or physical limitations, with us in advance. Check with us in advance about recovery time or the need for a driver so you can make necessary arrangements with work and family. Arrive 15 minutes early to verify your registration information and provide further health information for your exam. Wear comfortable, metal-free clothing; be prepared to change into a patient gown if necessary. Bring prior x-rays or scans with you to the exam if you are instructed to do so.

General Diagnostic Injections and Pain Management Procedure Guidelines

An EDI technologist or nurse will contact you 24-48 hours prior to your appointment to review medications you are currently taking, especially pain medications and blood thinners, discuss known allergies and your medical history, as well as answer your questions.

Please tell either the scheduler or the technologist if you have any previous history of iodine allergies, or if you are a diabetic. Liquids and/or a light meal are recommended 1 - 2 hours prior to your injection. Do not eat or drink anything 4 hours prior to your procedure if you are receiving sedation. You will need a driver for your appointment. (Exception: MRI Arthrograms of the knee, shoulder or wrist.) If you are unable to arrange transportation, call us for assistance.

Medical Records and Results

We will send your exam report(s) directly to you and to your physician (and films if requested) within 24 hours. Your physician will discuss the results with you at your next scheduled appointment.

If you have questions about your exam and have not been contacted by EDI, please feel free to call the center where your exam or procedure is taking place.
